Feminism is a word that scares many men and even some women. Some do not understand what exactly it is and that there are different types. Liberal feminism is the most mainstream type of feminism that focuses on social and legal reform. They lobby for women’s rights, some of which include reproductive rights and salary equality. Socialist feminism defines women as men’s property which enables the men to exploit the women. They believe the source of their oppression stems from their economic dependence on a husband. Radical feminism is the most extreme of the three and they say that economic and sexual oppression both result from male supremacy. Radical feminists have encouraged women to learn self defense, and they have tried to put an end to sexual harassment, pornography, and above all the objectification of women’s bodies.
This cartoon is an example of what liberal feminism tries to work against. It may seem like a small thing but double standards are something that almost every company has whether consciously or unconsciously. It pokes fun of the fact that double standards are so common saying that bosses might as well mention it in the interview process. Although a comical cartoon it is a serious problem in which people need to be aware so they can do their best to avoid the problem.
