Mom is going where dad goes!!!!

From second grade through eighth grade I lived in New Hampshire with my family. Right before eighth grade started my dad felt like it was time for him to leave his current job and move to Northern Virginia and try to start a business in DC. Our family was never any higher than middle class until then, and we were often lower middle class. When my dad wanted to move I remember my mom was not to thrilled because this would set us back financially big time. She said I will willingly come with you if this is what you think is best for the family. In the end it worked out great because now my dad has a great job at a company he started and has had it for 7 years now.

Chapter two talks about how men and women differ biologically and what that can mean as far as Gender roles are concerned. It says that “male penis has been perceived as a symbol of virility and strength. Men have been defined as the doers-the movers and the shakers. In contrast, the internal genitalia of women have helped to define them as the receivers-passive recipients and followers of men.” (Gamble and Gamble p.34) My mom and dad demonstrated this perfectly, my dad was the doer or the mover and my mom was very passive and followed my dad because that was one instance where he was very sure that is what he was supposed to do. My parents have a great marriage, and I am sure they talked about it much more than I saw and my dad would never make my mom do something she did not feel great about. I think that because my mom loves my dad and is willing to follow him anywhere she trusted in his judgment for our family.
