Male feminist, or profeminist men, are commonly called the new age man. These men “perceive the charges women leveled against men as true. They take the position that men and women are basically alike and, therefore, should have the same opportunities and privileges, occupy the same status, and have the same rights.” (Gamble and Gamble p.413) While many men oppose woman’s efforts to gain equality, these men support them in an active way. I think more men such as myself support some feminists but will never do anything about it. These men will act on what they believe and are some of woman’s biggest supporters. They are often seen as traitors and girly by other men.
The following is an article by a woman named Chloe Angyal. The name of the article is Boys Needed and it talks about male feminists. “Realize that real women have freckles, lumps, bumps, wrinkles, crooked teeth and, if they’re anything like me and my friends, they’ve probably spent a huge amount of time, energy and money trying to conceal, disguise and straighten out all those “flaws.” You might wonder why we’ve invested so much in trying to hide what sets us apart from every other woman, what makes us quirky and special.” She goes on to describe more involved feminists but that is an easy way for the average man to support feminism. Stop looking at women the way you see them in movies and on TV and comparing each real life woman to the hottest super model.
